How to learn, and never forget, the days of the week in Spanish
Some times, students have to look more than once at their textbooks to remember what the days of the week are called in Spanish. I have found a method to teach them so that they are recorded deeper in our mind and are more likely to remember. Do you want to know my method?
The first thing is that the names of the days of the week in Spanish have a religious origin because they refer to different deities. Whatyou have to do is write the name of the day and draw below the object or person to whom the name of the day refers.
1. Lunes (Monday): is the day of the Luna (moon). You should write Lunes and below you draw a Luna. It will be easy to remember as well as the first working day for us is also the day of our satelite.
2. Martes is the day of the Mars god.
3. Miércoles is the day of the Mercury god.
4. Jueves is the day of the Jupiter god.
5. Viernes is the day of the goddess Venus.
6. Sábado is the day of the god Saturn.
7. Domingo is the "Dominus dei" Lord's day (día del señor). With time dominus dei became domingo.
Now you know the reason why the days of the week in Spanish have their names. I assure you that if you do the exercise you will never forget what they are called!
